Design Services

When you are searching for Interior Design Services you can end up with a bossy interior designer (and designers of kitchens and bathrooms) who gives you what they want, as experienced on Changing Rooms and other design programmes. You can go to a company that claim to offer an Interior Design Service, when no more than curtain makers. Or you can use Kym. Some designers (mainly but not exclusively men) are practical. Some are extremely artistic. Few have a foot in both camps and provide you with the balance of artisitic flair and practical solutions, the real Interior Design Service. Please continue to read this, unless you wish to use Products & Services for all our Bespoke services (curtains, blinds, headboards, sofas & chairs, footstools, curtain tracks & poles, sliding wardrobe doors and picture framing) and/or standard tracks & poles, fabric & wallpaper, gift ideas, furniture and our Unique Handmade for You items.

Most designers of bathrooms and kitchens are men. Most men don't cook, although some take a bath. So, if you want a kitchen with maximum space utilisation, cupboards and storage everywhere, go to a kitchen company and get it designed for you. What you may find though, as many have, is the impracticality of the design when you come to actually use the kitchen. Kym, on the other hand, combines design ideas (and gadgets if you want them), the practical maximisation of space and the necessities of usage, along with the experience of cooking. How many cupboards can't you use because access is impractical? It's similar on the bathroom front - we've even known someone left with having to climb in the bath to open a door to get in/out of the bathroom! If you link to Kitchens & Bathrooms you'll find further information.

Another strength of Pygmalion is that we work with a number of tried and tested tradesmen, some having been with us for over 15 years. Kym co-ordinates the team so works with the plumber, the tiler, the electrician, the painter. All the work is organised so all the trades work around each other and to timescale. As we have such a team, it is highly unlikely that anything will come up that we can't take in our stride and sort. If you have a new carpet fitted and the door needs trimming, we make a phone call and arrange a chippie. You don't have to do anything, if you don't want to, as we offer a full service including opening up and locking sites, turn-key if it's your private, occupied home. If a trade doesn't turn up, we sort it. If there is a problem, we sort it. In the event of a disaster (hasn't happened yet) we are insured for up to £10,000,000. There are some projects that require Building Regs or Planning Permission, something else we can sort out for you liaising with Surveyors, architects and Local Planners. Link to Trades for more information.

If you are starting a project, Kym's first advice is to find someone that you are comfortable working with and feel you can trust and communicate with. If that isn't Kym we would recommend you find someone else. If it is, she will work with you to get an outline of your requirements and put together some ideas. If you are a new client, there will be a charge for the service, but this is refunded against the cost of work carried out subject to value criteria. Kym will then work with you to develop the project. She will help and guide you to the extent necessary/required, advising you as to the practicalities of your ideas. If you are going to spend £000's but not add value, she will tell you. You can put in a £60,000 kitchen but it won't add £60,000 to the value of your house. If you are planning to do something that will make your home harder to sell, she will tell you. If you extend your house to the detriment of the outside space, you will de-value your property. If what you want to put together isn't going to work, she will tell you. So far, she has never refused to do anything a client wanted after contrary advice, so it's up to you. Just bear in mind, she does know what she is talking about.

Final plans are then drawn up and costed. We usually require a 50% deposit with the balance payable on completion, although some bespoke items may have to be paid in full. Sounds simple. There may be some issues and/or problems along the way, but you can be assured we have the experience and the ability to deliver your requirements.
